Racehorse Transporters Association Limited
The Racehorse Transporters Association is the trade association member of the British Horseracing Board Industry Committee which represents the majority of racehorse transporters and all major UK and Irish shipping agents.
RTA Council members cover the whole spectrum of racehorse transportation and are available to help and advise members and prospective members on any aspect of horse transport. The RTA works in association with the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association.
Horse transport and the law
Anyone who transports horses as part of their business using a horsebox over 3.5 tonnes is required by UK and EU Law to have either a Department of Transport Open Operator's Licence or a Restricted Operator's Licence together with MAFF/DEFRA Specific Authorisation Number. All RTA members are fully registered with the appropriate authorities.
RTA members operate with reference to industry standard Terms and Conditions of Trading specific to racehorse transporters, approved by the UK Office of Fair Trading.
